Initial Teacher Training

Hawkley Hall High School is part of a growing number of schools leading the way for a more school-led teacher training approach (School Direct). At Hawkley we take the lead role in developing you as a teacher by providing the opportunity to work alongside the very best teachers during both your placements and training sessions.

The School Direct Course gives you a unique insight into what excellence in teaching really looks like and gives you the potential to develop into, not only an outstanding classroom teacher, but also a future leader of education. The high quality training during your School Direct year will enable you to make a real difference to the lives of young people and as a member of our community you would have access to a full teaching and learning professional development programme and personalised support.

Through our partnership with Kingsbridge EIP, our School Direct training cohort will be awarded

• QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
• PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education)

Based in the Borough of Wigan, Kingsbridge have a proven track record of success. Their latest OFSTED report rated Kingsbridge as ‘Outstanding’. Kingsbridge work with 19 schools across the borough and beyond and offer an excellent route into the exciting and rewarding world of teaching at primary and secondary levels. Over the past three years, all trainees have achieved a final grade that was ‘good’ or better. Last year, the vast majority of our trainees were classed as outstanding.
